Did you guys happen to see those few drops of rain we got today?? It sure wasn’t a ton, but we will most definitely take it ! I love fun, perfect summer weathered weekend plans just as much as any other Michigander, but I was most definitely praying for rain today. There are seeds to be germinated and tomatoes to ripen…..slightly cooler weather and a little bit of rain could actually do us all good….don’t you agree? (ps…I wrote this on Sunday…we could definitely use more rain! )

I apologize for the last minute details here. We are excited to be entering in our 2nd leg of the season as it is technically divided into 3, 6-week seasons for shorter shareholders. So if it’s your first week receiving produce, then Welcome! Those of you who just signed up for first season, thank you so much for supporting us and for being part of the farm! It’s been a joy to serve you….I know a few of you will be back for Season 3.
We also have about 7 more reasons to be slightly preoccupied this week…..4 new baby goats were born Sunday along with 3 kittens! Can you say “baby Boom??” Ironically , Jordan is out of town this week so the kids and I were on our own. All I’m going to say is that “there’s a first time for everything” lol….and milking a goat was one of them.
I wanted to wait until I harvested a decent amount today to have a list for you this week. Boxes this week will be all across the board as a few items are still slowly coming along.
Here are the staples you can look forward to in your boxes this week:
Curly Kale
Lacinato Kale
Lemon Basil
Potatoes
Summer Squash
Zucchini
Cucumber
Chives
This is the first week we wont have a salad mix or head lettuce to choose from . This heat has made it impossible to keep salad greens from bolting and/or germinating to start a new crop. Bear with us we’ve got more on the horizon.
Cabbage (full shares only)
other items you may see in the boxes include:
a few sweet/hot peppers & tomatoes are popping up as well as we are also finishing up broccoli and cauliflower until fall plantings
kohlrabi
cupcake squash
golden egg squash
beans (finishing up a shorter than expected heirloom variety and a new crop will be ready next week so hopefully more beans for week 8)
Since most of the produce is a repeat from weeks past…especially if you are a new member for these 6 weeks…please look back to the previous recipes in Weeks 1-6 blog posts:) I have worked my way through quite a few of them and definitely found a few keepers.
I do, however want to share a couple that will hopefully be useful for the multiple types of summer squash we have ….crookneck, spineless, golden egg & cupcake

See you All Tomorrow ! Have a great night everyone:)
