A Change in Seasons….

Wow! Feeling like a fall day today. I’m really enjoying it, but am definitely not ready for the summer weather to be over yet. Thankfully it looks like today is just a fluke on the upcoming forecast.  Just a reminder, starting NEXT WEEK, everyone will be picking up on WEDNESDAYS from 3-6. Like always, however, if you cannot make it please let me know and we can try to work something out.

I am so thankful for the rain we have been getting. Being a farmers wife, the weather outside kind of determines the mood of the house, if you know what I mean. Let’s just say, the zucchini farmer is happy this week….I’ll take it;)

I hope you are all enjoying your late summer harvest this week. I love seeing all of the squash ripening in the field. So delicious. Time to bust out those fall recipes!!

So, the tomatoes are peppers are actually coming to an end. I think we may have a few peppers next week, and definitely tomatoes, but that may be it. If some of you are looking for more to can or freeze, don’t miss your chance next week! If you didn’t catch my facebook post, here is an easy way to use up your vegetables if you are starting to run stuck.

“What Am I going To Do With all of these Veggies Sauce”

with Chicken and Pasta

I cut up about 12 tomatoes, 1 eggplant, 1 onion and threw a few small radishes onto a baking sheet. Then, I drizzled it all with olive oil and addes some minced garlic, pepper and basil leaves.

I threw it all in the oven at a pretty low temp…275 and roasted the veggies for 30-40 minutes. The house smelled amazing!

Next, I threw it all in my food processor, and pulsed it a few times to create a sauce.

Using the sauce, I simmer it with some chicken breast, cut into chunks until it is cooked through….approximately 10 minutes.

I spoiled us all by buying some AMAZING Local Epicurean pasta at the farmers market in Holland this week. So stinking good. Put a little sauce overtop and you are good to go! I was going to take a pic of it all plated up, with a little parmesan cheese on top, but then realized that we are still eating off paper plates. Now that I’ve just told you that…why the heck did I care at the time?? Who knows:)

In garden news, Sweet corn is also going fast . If you would like some extra, we are selling it for $3.50 a dozen, just let me know in advance and I will have it picked for you when you come.

Next week you can plan on some potatoes and rosemary again, along with some lettuce for sure.

Here are a few pics from this week in the garden. I really hope the brussel sprouts hang on… I am seeing some bug damage but hopefully we’ve got them under control.

REMINDER: Pick up on TUESDAY ONLY this week:)

Good Morning!

Sitting here, drinking coffee and answering emails…watching the rain come down. Oh, how we really needed a good, slow, steady rain. I absolutely love the warm summer days, but I almost crave mornings like this.

Looking ahead to this week. Remember, there will only be one pick up this week for everyone. The hours will be TUESDAY, from 3:30 – 6:30 pm for EVERYONE. (both Tuesday and Thursday shares) Please let me know if you absolutely cannot make it between these times and I’d love to make something work for you:)

What can you plan on ? Great question:)

Tomatoes (all 3 varieties) , Peppers (all 4 varieties) , Basil, Zucchini, Summer Squash, As much eggplant as I can get this week, Green Beans, Lettuce, Sweet Corn!!!, Onions and Acorn Squash ….LOVE me some acorn:)

When I decided to go back to college, I worked at a squash farm in Hudsonville part time in the packing shed. I was able to bring my fair share of squash home and learned how to cook it many different ways. This recipe is just one way I love to eat acorn squash.

Schedule Updates and More Recipes

Good Evening:)

Thanks to those of you who gave input on pick up times for the last week of August thru September. Overall, it sounds like Wednesdays were the favorite day of the week to pick up your produce…..so Wednesdays it is! Starting the week of August 26th, there will only be 1 day for pick up, on Wednesday, from 3-6. Please, please, please let me know if this absolutely does NOT work for you and we can figure something out:)

Just a friendly reminder…Full Shares are $25 per week and Half Shares are $15 per week. We are currently in Week #7….but I took a week off.  Remember, you all had a $50 credit in the beginning of the season if you paid as well:)

Now that we’ve got the schedule figured out, and I’ve cleared up my ‘whoopsie’ on what was going to be in your box this week..here are 2 great recipes to help you use your ROSEMARY this week:)

Late Summer/Back to School Schedule

Hi Everyone!

Hope youŕe all having a terrific Monday! We are finally set up with internet at the new house so I feel like I can communicate a little more:)

I am looking at my schedule for back to school…I can’t even believe it. I wasn’t sure of my schedule for the fall when I set things up for the CSA this spring…but it turns out I am teaching a decent part of the day on both Tuesdays and Thursdays this year.  Starting the week of August 24th, I will have school, so I was wondering if I could get some feedback as to what would work best for you all during the month of September? (and the last week of August) I anticipate September being the last full month of produce so it would just be 4 weeks or so.

What are your thoughts of 1 pick up for everyone a week….on Monday, Wednesday,Friday or Saturday? Do you have a preference on a day? What times work best? I’d love to hear feedback via email or on facebook or on here…whatever works for you. Interested to see what the majority of you have to say. Thanks for understanding!!

Also, next week, as in the 10th-14th….there will be only TUESDAY pick up. If this doesn’t work for any of you please let me know and we can make other arrangements.
