April Showers….bring Vegetables??

Hope you all had a great Easter weekend with family and friends, celebrating the resurrection of Christ! Today is a beautiful day, however, the forecast doesn’t look so great for the rest of the week. That is, unless, you are a farmer. Rain is good. My husband and I joke that our prayers cancel each other out sometimes…I’m usually praying for sunshine and dry weather to get out with the kids, while he’s hoping for rain and/or cloud cover so he can keep up on the watering in the greenhouse. Since our little seedlings are protected and hand watered…I’ll take all of the dry sunny days we can get!

Things are coming right along at the farm! Believe it or not, our first crops will be already transplanted or hand sown in just a few weeks at the tail end of April! These plants include: beans, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, lettuce, peas, radishes and spinach. I know that many of us tend to rely on Memorial Day as a rule of thumb for planting our gardens in Michigan, but those listed veggies love the cooler weather (keeping in mind we will have to protect them if an intense frost happens to come our way).

Here are a few recent pics of what’s growing in the greenhouses as of now.

Hope you all have a fantastic week, rain or shine!
